Our team makes Preferred Joinery who we are and we have them to thank for our success. As a family-run business, most of the people who work here have done so for over two decades and are incredibly skilled in their area of joinery. We provide an end-to-end service from the initial call to design, manufacturing and installing on-site.
Our team are here every step of the way, providing their expertise, guiding you through the process, keeping you updated and expertly handcrafting your
timber products to bring your vision to life.
Mike founded Preferred Joinery over 27 years ago and has run the company ever since. He can do absolutely everything and is the fountain of all knowledge at Preferred Joinery.
The go-to person for joinery projects on listed buildings, he knows everything you can and can’t do, all the tiny nuances from the materials used to the correct dimensions for specific types of properties. He regularly works with councils and conservation officers on listed buildings and period properties to perfectly replicate what was created hundreds of years ago. Very few people in the world know this information, and even less know it to the detail
Mike does.
Mike also works in the factory, mainly helping out John, machining
all the wood to size and building the base frames for our projects.
Richard is the second in command at Preferred Joinery and has worked here for over 20 years. He was already incredibly experienced before he started, add to that the decades he’s gained working at Preferred, this explains why he can do absolutely everything, and why he runs the show at the factory. If anyone ever has a question or needs help, they go straight to Richard.
Any tricky projects or specialist pieces are completed by Richard. This includes bifold doors, large French doors, staircases and other unique pieces. This is because he’s incredibly experienced in all areas and ensures no matter the vision he’ll make it a reality. Richard also
quality assures all our work before it goes out to ensure it meets his high standards.
John, affectionately known here as Devo, is our skilled machinist. He works with all the rough timber in the factory machining it to the right sizes and shapes. He works on the spindle, tenoning and mortise machines to trim and shape the wood and create all the mortise and tenon joints to assemble the frames for all our projects. For example, all our timber front doors start with John, as he makes the main frame before passing them on to Danny and Will to assemble.
Danny has worked at Preferred for over 17 years, and he heads the assembly line. He takes the frames and pieces John has built and assembles the final product together alongside Will.
He knocks up all the doors, windows, gates, etc. on his bench and sends them to Craig to complete the final finishing touches.
Craig started at Preferred Joinery as an apprentice around 25 years ago and is still here today. Now an incredibly skilled joiner, Craig completes all the finishing touches to each piece we produce. He makes all the beading and decoration and gets all our pieces sanded, dressed up ready to fit and prepped ready to be painted.
He’s the main man for finishing off all our bespoke timber doors, installing all the different panels and levels of decoration that make them come together as a final finished piece.
Dave is our skilled site fitter who goes out to expertly install all our finished products. He’s worked at Preferred Joinery for 20 years. Dave is incredibly strong, lifting all our sash windows (completed with a cord and weight) all by himself, it’s impressive to see! He’s a great installer with an incredible eye for detail, ensuring everything is installed correctly and working perfectly, providing an excellent end service for all our customers.
Carlee is the backbone of Preferred Joinery and we would all be lost without her! She’s Mike’s daughter, so has worked at the family company, as Mike’s PA, since she left school and knows the ins and outs of it all, running everything on the admin side of the business.
Carlee manages everything from HR, payroll, accounting and invoicing to customer service and relationships management. She does enough work for two people and she’s also a fully qualified PT!
